It was during a singing tour of southern France in the early 60s that Jean Ferrat discovered the Ardèche village of Antraigues-sur-Volane. The song "La Montagne" was inspired by the village and its surrounding mountains. But above all, the song recounts the rural exodus and the loss of simple, timeless values. Jean Ferrat settled in the village in 1964 and has been buried there since 2010.
