ABOUT THIS SONG
Quentin Crisp is an English writer and gay icon of the 70s, in what was then a very conservative England. Despite being attacked, he refused to hide his homosexuality, but eventually went into exile to live peacefully in New York. It is from this true story that the song "Englishman in New York" is inspired. In 1987, Sting had been out of "The Police" for over two years, and released his second solo album, "Nothing Like the Sun", from which this jazzy song is taken.
